Cycling
West Mendip is crossed by two signed routes on the National Cycle Network. NCN Route 3, which starts in Bristol, includes the stretch from Chew Magna to Wells, via Priddy, sometimes described as the centre of the Mendips and well-known for its annual Sheep Fair and Folk Festival. Further west and much less steep is the southern end of NCN Route 26, from Yatton to Axbridge and Cheddar. This is mainly off-road and is very suitable for families; most of it is along the Strawberry Line, so called because when it was a railway it carried freshly-picked strawberries from the many fruit farms along the Cheddar Valley to the markets of London and other cities.
